Bodyshop work is expensive! Also: Sky is blue, water is wet.
Had someone try to pass my wife in a parking lot and ding her Mazda5 years and years ago. What looked like a cheap repair was almost $3k. $3,000. THREE. THOUSAND. DOLLARS.
Thank expensive parts (bumper cover) and a LOT of labor to pull out the dent, plus paint.
Before and after shots for your pleasure.

Body work cost is one of those things that depends on who you know. I know an old guy that runs a repair shop that does it for next to nothing. He calls it the "repeat customer discount" because we've been there several times, including having him respray an entire Airstream trailer.

3k hurts, but it's well done.

Yes it is. I was quoted to fix my leaky trunk at $550.

They do good work sometimes.
Other times, they couldn't make my sunroof not whistle after a tree fell on our '05 CR-V.

I deal with many many body shops and I know the price and quality varies heavily. Thankfully this was an insurance paid job (as all of mine have been) but if I had to pay out of pocket I would definitely not go there again, even if its our dealer group's body shop.
